ASHLAND, Ky. (WYMT) - A federal grand jury indicted a Lawrence County man on disability fraud after saying he continued to drive a truck while collecting disability benefits.

A federal grand jury says Lavern Brandt obtained $61,955.00 in disability benefits between February 2014 and November 2018.

The indictment alleges Brandt lied about continuing to work as a truck driver. He previously told the Social Security Administration that he drove a truck in the past, but stopped in 2002.

He was charged with several counts of fraud.

He faces three counts of fraud, count one leads to possibly 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, counts two and three up to five years in prison, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Brandt will appear in court on Wednesday, April 28.
