HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - It is going to be an ugly day across the region that will make you forget that it is late April and remind you more of conditions we would typically see in January or February.

Today and Tonight

Depending on the temperature in your area, you could see a little bit of everything today, especially early. Rain, wintry mix and snow are all on the table. While we don’t expect any snow to accumulate on the roads, it has accumulated on the grass in areas to our north. The roads will also be wet regardless, so take it easy out there early.

The cold front will continue its trek through the region, so the coldest temperatures of the day will likely be closer to mid-morning before slowly starting to climb. Depending on how fast the clouds clear this afternoon, most of us probably won’t make it out of the low 40s for highs. Even if we do manage to struggle our way into the mid to upper 40s, the northwest wind will still make it feel much colder.

Skies are still expected to clear tonight, which should drop us to around freezing for lows by tomorrow morning. A Freeze Warning goes into effect at some point tonight and goes through Thursday morning. Bring in or cover up your sensitive plants, flowers or crops. Frost is likely.

Extended Forecast

While I think Thursday is mostly dry, models are hinting at the chances for stray showers, so I kept a chance in for them. I think we see a mix of sun and clouds with highs rebounding back into the mid-50s. Skies clear out again Thursday night and temperatures drop back into the low to mid-30s, so frost is again possible.

The end of the work and school week finally improves on Friday, but it is short-lived. Look for a mix of sun and clouds and highs returning to the low 60s. Rain chances return Friday night.

Those chances linger through the first part of the weekend and Saturday looks soggy. Highs will struggle into the mid-50s Saturday afternoon. Sunday looks a little better with clearing skies and highs back into the mid-60s.

Next week, sunny skies are back for the first three days and so are the warmer temperatures. We could be back into the 80s for highs by Tuesday.
